John Michael-Diabetes InsulinPump
Donation protected
Hello friends and family, I am Angela Miceli-Gwiazdowski and I am John Michael Krupka's Aunt and Godmother.
I will never forget the weekend of Mother's Day 2013 for two reasons. One was that I was celebrating my first year as a mother. The other was that my sister and her family found themselves admitting my nephew to the hospital. John Michael was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (known in the past as juvenile diabetes and known now as "T1D"). Since then, he has had to poke his fingers 8-10x a day to check his blood sugar level and take insulin shots 4-6x all over his body.
I have seen the love, strength, and commitment it has taken the Krupka family to manage this complex disease, 24 hours a day. This "gofundme" site is my way of being involved.
There is new technology out there to help those living with diabetes, it's called an insulin pump. Insulin pumps help to manage diabetes and stabilize numbers. John Michael's blood sugar numbers will never be normal, but the control will be tighter with the pump. In fact, it has been extremely difficult to manage John Michael's numbers over the past year due to the tremendous amount of growing he has done! Growth hormones affect diabetes. The pump is needed now to better help him manage and prevent serious complications in the future. Another new device, called a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) will help him to monitor blood sugars.
I hope to raise around $5,000 to cover John Michael's expenses directly related to an insulin pump purchase, a CGM, and related supplies. Any funds collected above this amount will still be put toward future diabetes supplies for the pump and the CGM, as well as bills related to continuing diabetes education classes.
This account has also been set up to assist his parents (Mary and John) financially so they do not have to be burdened any more than they have been over the past 2 years, with medical bills.
As many of you know, my sister Mary has been ill and after much medical testing, was diagnosed with 2 autoimmune disorders, one being a difficult nervous system disorder. Then, her son John Michael was diagnosed with diabetes. My brother-in-law John was also the victim of a major T-bone car accident in September of that same year where those at fault were completely uninsured. Then, lastly, was the most recent shock of all: in February of last year, Mary was brutally assaulted and debilitated, not being able to work. She is still recovering from the traumatic brain injury and PTSD from the assault.
As you might imagine, this is all too much in a short amount of time to handle. This is why now is the time to help them be able to help their son by covering costs for his Pump and CGM.
Please consider donating and then, sharing this message with others on FB as soon as possible. Let us help them to feel the love they already know surrounds them! We appreciate any donations to ease the family’s financial burden at this time. Thank you so much!
