Jack Mitchell Memorial Environmental Scholarship

Mr. Jack Mitchell was a long time member of the Oregon community and a teacher, coach, and advisor at Oregon High School for more than 30 years. The founder of the ECOS (Environmentally Concerned Oregon Students) Club at OHS, Jack was a passionate gardener and steward of the Earth. It would be challenging to find a location in our community not touched by Jack’s green thumb and genuine concern for others.
Gaylord Nelson, the 35th governor of WI, and founder of Earth Day, once said “Our goal is not just an environment of clean air and water and scenic beauty. The objective is an environment of decency, quality and mutual respect for all other human beings and all other living creatures.” This statement accurately reflected the way in which Jack led his life and positively impacted both the Earth and human beings. It is only fitting that Jack passed away recently on Earth Day, April 22, 2022.
Your gift to fund the Jack Mitchell Memorial Environmental Scholarship will provide scholarship support in recognition of the environmental stewardship of a senior at Oregon High School, and allow the legacy of Mr. Mitchell to live on in future generations.
