Hello!
I'm Kristin Boyce....sister of Jamie Field. Together, along with my sister Jen Field we are helping our little (well not so little) brother get a new handicap-accessible van. They are quite costly so we need help!
This is a SUPER important need right now as the one he has had for the last several years is on it's last leg. The repair shop has advised him there is not much else they can do and that he will need to find a new one. He's put thousands of dollars into fixing it over the last year. It's no longer a viable option for him and has become a money pit! It's now beyond repair and mechanic told him he needs a new (or new to him) van!
Having reliable transportation is truly a lifeline for him. It's no ordinary van that he needs, it's a specialized one. That makes this a very unique request. How did we get here? If you know him or know our family, you may already know his story. If you have stumbled upon this request, we want to fill you in!
On December 29, 2001....Jamie was walking home when he was shot point-blank in his chest during an attempted robbery in Wilmington, Delaware. The bullet pierced his lung, spinal cord and came out his neck. The picture shown in the images attached gives you a glimpse of the scene and the severity of his case. A chalk outline of a body on the ground is usually done in preparation for a homicide investigation. They didn't expect him to even survive the ambulance ride to the hospital. He was at a pivotal point in life where he had his life ahead of him and was ready to head off to the Air Force. Instead, he would spend the next 6 months in ICU hooked up to a ventilator, suffering setback after setback. He spent his 21st birthday in ICU and would then spend the next 6 mos in a rehab facility in Philadelphia learning how to live this new life, wheelchair-bound.
He has learned to live and adapt to life in a wheelchair over these last 22 years. It hasn't been easy but he's been a champ. He has become independent and his most prized possession of freedom is his wheelchair-accessible van. He has numerous doctors appts each week to attend and when his van is broken down, it's really hard finding a ride with a wheelchair. It's not as easy as calling an Uber! He was appointed this past year to the Handicap Accessibility Board for the State of DE, which would make our dad super proud as he was the past president (our Dad Larry also died in 2001). He also now proudly serves and attends his church (The Journey) each week. He has found so much joy in serving with the teens and youth group each week, along with his girlfriend Angie. He has even been able to help transport some of these kids to and from church activities. He has been able to use his story to help others and it's been a sweet blessing watching how the Lord has been using him in this season. It's also restored his faith and hope!
With no van, that means no transportation which basically means no life for him outside of the house. A new van for him is a dire need for him right now and would be an AMAZING blessing. He does not have the financial capacity to purchase one and would NEVER ask anyone for anything. However, I know that there are AWESOME people out there who are blessed with more means than others and who have the heart to see this come together. Every little bit helps but we need to raise $50,000 to make this possible! A blessing to him is a blessing to others since he has a heart to serve. Please help us make this come true for him! THANK YOU!
Why $50,000? They are pricey! We have looked at options and between the van and 6-way seat needed and hand control equipped...these conversions are also costly. $50,000 was on the low end. Obviously, we will work with whatever we have but aiming to provide for his needs! We will send final updates to all contributors!
If you can't contribute, can you please share this with others! We are grateful for your love and support!
Love,
Jamies sisters.....
