Jarrett's Journey
Donation protected
Jarrett Mills is a 23 year old young man who is considered blessed to be alive. He lives with a dangerous heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). Although he was born with this genetic disease, it wasn't uncovered until the age of 9 years old. He was immediately restricted to non competitive sports or anything that would raise his heart rate. As an active kid he struggled sometimes with following those guidelines for fear of being different. His freshman year of highschool was the first time that need would put his life in danger. Students were instructed to run laps in the gym and Jarrett participated. On his 3rd lap he collapsed and immediately went in to cardiac arrest. There is only about a 3% survival rate when this happens but Jarrett survived! Doctors decided a defibrillator would be the next measure of treatment in that it would shock his heart the next time he'd have a dangerous increase in heart rate. Since 2006 he has been shocked 8 times! He was told that heart surgery would be necessary one day and that time has come. On June 12, Jarrett will have cardiovascular open heart surgery at one of the leading hospitals specializing in his condition, The Cleveland Clinic of Heart and Vascular Institute of Ohio. The goal of this fundraiser is to help with travel expenses for Jarrett and his parents. Thanks so much for your support and follow us through this Journey! Lets get them there!
