Therapy Dog for 7-year-old with Autism
Donation protected
Jax was born 17 weeks early and was given only a 4% chance of healthy survival. A fighter from the start, he has a long medical history. He also has ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Jax is SO much more than his diagnoses. His smile brightens up the room and his jokes keep everyone laughing. He loves to build with Legos and talk about Minecraft. Jax recently started 1st grade at a special school for kids just like him. He loves it!
Still, Jax's ADHD and ASD make it hard for him to keep his body safe. During times of sensory overload, he runs away, deliberately hurts himself, and destroys his surroundings. He needs a helper who can provide comfort and safety.
Enter Molly! She's a 2-year old mixed-breed dog we recently adopted. With advanced training, Molly will become Jax's therapy and support dog. She will begin initial training this week to learn basic obedience, safety, and other important foundations for therapy dogs.
Eventually, she will be trained to help calm Jax down when he's in an unsafe situation, keeping him from hurting himself or others. She will also be taught to locate Jax if he elopes.
The initial training is over $6000, which seems like a TON of money. But, it will all be worth it to ensure Jax is safe with a companion who will protect and calm him.
It's hard to ask for help, but we've been on the waiting lists for service dogs for more than 3 years with no end in sight, so we decided to pursue training on our own.
Please help us give Jax the help, support, and protection he needs by contributing to our training fund for Molly. We appreciate your support!
