My parents came to Germany so they could meet their new grandson. But right be before arriving here, my dad caught the flu.

At first, we thought he just had a cold that he needed to sleep off, but he got progressively worse. Eventually he could barely breathe, so we had to take him to the hospital.

At the hospital, he was immediately admitted to intensive care.

They had to intubate him and put him in a medically induced coma. He also got pneumonia and a sepsis on top of Influenza. Due to those complications, he has been there for almost three weeks now.

My parents had to rebook their flights and my mom is on unpaid leave right now.

And my dad didn’t even get to spend any time with his grandchildren because kids are not allowed to visit patients in intensive care.
