Thank you for reading this. This fundraiser is for Jennifer Champlin, a hard-working wife and mom of 4, as well as an entrepreneur, who runs her own cleaning business. This is being coordinated by her cousin, Megan.
What happened.
On Dec 21, 2022, Jenn had a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Ordinarily, the cause and symptoms for this type of attack wrap up within a 24-hour period. However, she continues to have difficulty with thought-to-speech conversion, short-term memory, balance, headaches and general confusion. The doctors have already been treating her for the past 4 months for a new diagnosis of PTSD, which has contributed to some of the strain on her brain.
Continued medical info/concerns.
After having the TIA, the hospital ran an MRI which revealed a significant amount of white brain matter lesions all over her brain. They also have discovered and confirmed minimal brain damage. The white matter lesions interrupt some of the pathways within her brain. The TIA was brought on because there was a lack of oxygen to her brain at the time because of one of these blocked pathways within her brain (temporary artery blockage). Her doctors are currently treating her for White Matter Disease - however, this has not yet been confirmed by a neurologist. She is trying to urgently be seen by a neurologist to confirm/deny White Matter Disease, with current wait times until May. She is a very high stroke risk as well.
Further info on the potential of White Matter Disease (WMD).
With the conditions and issues she had before the TIA, signs are pointing to the likelihood of WMD. There is no cure for this disease. Treatment is for the prevention of further lesion growth and to stop or reduce the growth of current lesions. Life expectancy for WMD is 6 months to 4 years from point of diagnosis. However, in rare cases, some people have lived for decades.
WHY Jenn needs YOUR help!
Right now with such a high stroke risk and the potential for WMD, she and her husband, Jason, have taken time from work to allow Jenn to recover, and allow Jason to care for Jenn and the 3 younger kids. Jason went back to work one day this week and returns fully to work next week (1/2/23)
Because of the stroke risk and potential for WMD she has been asked to stop working, but as the only employee of her cleaning business, she will be unable to generate any income therefore, it is not financially feasible for her to take the time she needs to rest.
A personal message from Jenn:
This is where for me, I choose to rely on my faith in our Lord. I will do everything that the doctors ask of me, including quitting smoking which I start tomorrow with the patch woohoo! However, I believe that the Lord will pull me through this in a miraculous way and these lesions will disappear and I'll have a testimony to share when this is all said and done, YEARS from now! I received a call from my doctor's office today regarding the echocardiogram that they did in the ER. It appears as though I may have a small hole in my heart as well, that may have been there since birth from what I understand. This does not help any of the above matters mentioned. They are scheduling another test for next week, truth be told I can't remember what she said specifically the test would be. But I think it is an echocardiogram with saline bubbles. I believe the first echo did not have the saline. As mentioned, they are currently treating me to prevent any further growth of current lesions or new ones. Aspirin, 3 BP medicines, cholesterol medicine etc. They would prefer that I stop working until further notice, but understand my situation and have allowed me to start up next week on a trial basis, short term, with strict protocol. I think I covered it all. You are all welcome too reach out to me anytime I love each one of you that may be reading this!
