Hello, I am Jersey Phillips from Cheektowaga, NY.  Recently I was invited to try out for the PeeWee/12U International Selects Hockey Program.  More than 225 girls across North America tried out and competed for 68 positions on 4 teams.  I was selected to participate in the program’s international spring training development camp and the World Selects Invitational in Bolzano, Italy this May.  This opportunity will submerge me into foreign cultures and face top international competition in this once in a lifetime experience.

                I have been playing hockey for over 7 years now and I absolutely love playing the game.  Over this span of time I have accomplished so much.  I have always been a Buffalo Regal.  I played house hockey for my first 4 years in the game.  When I started travel (10 years old) I knew it would be a challenge that I could overcome and succeed in.  With hard work and dedication I have been lucky enough to be noticed by other coaches and organizations. I’ve been asked to play on other teams for games, tournaments, and camps.  I was specifically chosen to attend a USA Hockey state camp in SUNY Canton last summer.  I have also met a lot of people I admire in hockey.  I met Tyler Ennis (NHL player for the Buffalo Sabres), Cheryl Pounder (Canadian Olympian), Patrick Kane (NHL All-Star, 2 time Stanley Cup winner and player for the Chicago Blackhawks) and Molly Schaus (US Olympian 2 time Silver Medalist).  I had the opportunity to meet one on one with Molly.  Molly allowed me to hold her medals and I will never forget what she said to me...“You can hold these medals, but know that you can’t put them around your neck until you earn one of your own.”

                This opportunity will offer me the chance to play teams from Latvia, Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, Norway, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Finland.  In addition to this, our team will be spending a portion of our time touring the cities of Venice and Bolzano. We will visit museums, castles and other historical landmarks.
