Jesse Sweeney's Medical Funds

On Friday, January 27, 2017, I got a phone call about my dad having what we thought was another stroke... At only 22, he had his first stroke and a small brain aneurysm. With that stroke, he was life-flighted to Mercy hospital in Des Moines, where he spent his 23rd birthday and was in the hospital over a month. He had to learn to walk and write all over again and paralysis on the left side of the face. He had 3 eye surgeries to follow so that his eyes would at least move the same.

Now, 4 months after he turned 39, he has had multiple strokes and another brain aneurysm. This time, very severe. He was life-flighted to Iowa City where they performed an emergency surgery within a half hour of arrival. This surgery was 4-5 hours long . He had a significant amount of bleeding causing pressure in the brain. To release pressure and drain the blood, the doctors had to drill 2 holes in his head and remove his posterior bone flap. We found out our dad has something called an AVM (where a blood vessel and an aorta vessel connect and eventually causes a bleed), which is very rare. His strokes have caused permanent damage in certain areas of the brain, which will cause him to never be the same man again. One of his strokes was on his brain stem- the most important area of the brain- controlling your breathing, heartbeat, and blood pressure. All of this has caused him to be put on life support. Doctor's say outcome is slim to none, but we are having a hard time giving up hope just yet- as we want to believe our dad is still the fighter that he was last time.

This is all so difficult for all of us as it was so unexpected and sudden, and we're just trying to take everything one day at a time. He's really the life of the party, the man who knows how to make anyone laugh, the man who is always, always a jokester, and a great dad to me (Kayla - 21 y/o), and my 2 brothers (Teagen & Brayton 12 y/o & 15 y/o), brother to 1 brother (Mykl) and 2 sisters (Breezy & Alyssa), son (to Joann Nelson & Michael Sweeney), and friend to many.

Any donation to help out any medical expenses and the family is so greatly appreciated. Thank you for keeping our dad and our family in your thoughts and prayers.
