Omaha actress and comedienne, Jessica Kent, was diagnosed with breast cancer in February of 2015. Since Groundhog's day has long been her family's inside joke as the best holiday of the year, she's determined to not let this year's prediction of "at least 6 more weeks of cancer" get her down. Her double mastectomy in March, upcoming months of chemotherapy, and breast reconstruction surgeries are just bumps in the road. She's determined to get back to working again as soon as possible, and doing what she loves - performing improvisational comedy and community theater.
In the meanwhile, the expenses she's facing are considerable. Between diminished wages, and medical expenses from surgeries, treatment, home care, prosthetics and other supplies, the biggest challenges seem to be the financial ones. While a final tally is a long way off, the donations made now will go a long way toward keeping those challenges from becoming a crisis.
No stranger to cancer, Jessica experienced Hodgkin's Lymphoma at age 15. A New York native, she was treated with chemotherapy and radiation at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. While she successfully avoided recurrence for 25 years, the development of a secondary cancer has always been a risk she faced. In Omaha, she's now receiving treatment at the Estabrook Cancer Center at Methodist Hospital.
