From Meredith Edwards:
Around a year ago, I was sitting on my patio crying. My newborn had been inconsolable all day, my husband out of town for weeks, and my toddler was being a toddler. I looked up and my brother Joey was walking around the corner. He took the baby, rocked him, and told me, "It's going to be ok. You'll be fine. You can do this." And he let me sit there and sob my heart out. I can't stop thinking of that day, and I'm sobbing my heart out again because now I'm telling him, "It's going to be ok. You'll be fine. You can do this."
Joey has just been diagnosed with stage III Anaplastic Astrocytoma, a malignant brain tumor, and he will not be working while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.
I wish I could convey how scary, how sad, how unpredictable everything is for him right now. Every single one of us wants to fix this and make it all better. What we can do is make sure the only thing he needs to think about is fighting. So many people have already come together to buy groceries, take dinner by, and watch his two children while he was in the hospital. It meant the world to us and took the burden off him and his wife. We want to continue to be able to offer this support and carry some of his burden. I can't fix everything but we can all fix a little.
And Joey, Winnie the Pooh once said, "Promise me you'll always remember: you're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."
We love you.
