My dad has unresectable, stage IV Sqaumous Cell Carcinoma. Upon starting chemo and radiation he developed internal and external pustules as well as experiencing hypothermia and seizures that required hospitalization and an abrupt end of treatment. The cancer is growing larger daily and has already closed off 90% of his esophagus making it extremely difficult to eat. It has also encroached on his trachea and has severely effected his breathing, requiring him to be on oxygen. An experimental drug called Keytruda can help, but it is not affordable.
My dad has been a doctor for over 30 years, and has always provided free care to disadvantaged and impoverished patients, often times people without insurance. Unfortunately, after opening an inner city clinic and seeing patients that are predominantly on medicade and obamacare, my parents are owed over $200,000 from these insurance companies.
We have done everything the doctors have told us to and nothing has helped. There is one option we have not tried, the drug Keytruda, but it is between $20-30,000 per treatment. We are hoping this treatment can help shrink the tumor enough to make it operable. I can speak on behalf of my family that we are so thankful for all the prayers and help over the past year and we understand financial limitations. Anything you can give helps.
We are hoping to begin treatment as soon as possible. If you cannot give, please share this. The more people it reaches, the more prayers for my dad, and the more possible money raised to get him the help he needs.
As his daughter, I have always seen my dad put others before himself. Often times seeing patients for free and paying for their medicines if they cannot afford it. I've never seen my dad ask for help from anyone, but unfortunately now this is his only hope. Thank you so much for your time.
Sincerely,
Brianna Chomer
