Johnny King Medical Fund

On February 1, 2016 Johnny King was involved in a motorvehical accident in Key West, Florida. Multiple witnesses say that he was driving his scooter when the car in front of him started to turn off the road into a parking lot but was forced to slam on their brakes due to a bicyclist crossing the turn in area. Johnny attempted to stop/correct but was unable to in time. His scooter handlebar clipped the car and sent him flying head first. He has suffered a TBI (traumatic brain injury) which includes multiple skull fractures, brain bleeds and a fractured eye socket. He was immediately airlifted by a trauma helicopter to Kendall Florida where he remains critical condition, sedated on a ventilator in the ICU. Prognisis is unclear at this time as his condition is monitored and can change with each passing hour but we have unyielding hope and faith.

Johnny is a lifelong involved member of the Key West community, a beloved father, grandfather, friend and loved one and a passionate and talented musician. He is loved by so many- the outpouring of prayer and messages from those who care for him has been overwhelming. He has incredible faith and strength that has already brought him through many challenges in his life and we have faith that he has was it takes to fight and get through this too.

The trauma hospital he was flown to is approximately a 4 hours drive (each way) for his son and long time girlfriend and 20+ hours for his daughter, making the financial burdern of travel and visitation to the hospital (rental car, hotel, gas, plane tickets, missed work etc) extremely difficult  during this traumatic time.

Any amount raised will be a huge blessing and will go towards Johnny and his family to help cover anticpated travel costs to and from the hospital as well as future medical needs. The recovery road is still uncertain- one thing however is certain- Johnny has an ARMY of Conch brothers and sisters, family and loved ones who will help provide the strength to help him get through this.  We (Johnny's family) appreciate and are so grateful to all of you for any and all help offered, whether it be through donation or simple yet powerful prayers and thoughts for the man that we love so much.

1.)  My name is Melissa Barraza and I am the initiator of the GoFundMe page for fundraising for Johnny King 
2.) I am originally from Key West (born and raised) but currently reside in Groton, Connecticut with my 2 small children and husband (active duty military).
3.) relationship: Johnny King is my father.
4.) Funds raised will be spent to cover anticipated travel costs for Johnny's children and girlfriend to visit him in the hospital and any various expenses caused onto any of his children or girlfriend during Johnny's hospitalization and rehabilitation as well as any additional future expenses that Johnny may require help with as a result of his accident.
5.) funds raised will be distributed accordingly: The entirety of the funds raised are being deposited into a secure savings account owned by myself (Melissa Barraza) designated soley for fundraising for Johnny King. I will be in charge of writing checks to Johnny's son Aaron, or girlfriend Jo for any expenses they incur while making weekly visits to visit Johnny in the ICU in Miami and some towards plane fare for myself to get to Florida as soon as possible.  Any funds remaining after these travel expenses will be transferred over to either Johnny King (if able) or to his log time girlfriend (Jo) for financial help to ease the burden of loss of her companion's help in daily life.
