*This is the official, family-approved GoFundMe account for Wilkins “Trae” Jones Funeral Costs
Hello all, we need your generosity to get Yolanda and her daughter’s Cezon and Caydance through this difficult time. This is a way that we can all help support them financially as they are faced with burial costs and the many other unforeseen costs that they will be faced with in the coming weeks and months. The financial burden will be staggering for this entrepreneurial family, even with help from extended family members it will be a while before Yolanda can get her life back.
HIS STORY
December 2014 Wilkins "Trae" Jones complained of a deep pain on his side, a pain he had been dealing with for the past 2 months. I told him to go to the emergency room so we can finally figure out what was going on. The day he went to the emergency room his blood pressure was 230/162, immediately the doctors forgot all about the pain on the side and started dealing with his hypertension the next week. Trae was feeling down again, he knew his blood pressure was up this time we decided to go to Parkland.
After getting to Parkland we realized his blood pressure was 238/159 and they rushed him to the back that time, even worse they could not get his blood pressure down, they put him in ICU… he was in ICU for 2 weeks trying different medications and different medical things to keep his blood pressure down. At that time they realized that he also had fluid in his lungs and it needed to be removed! His blood pressure had been bad so long without him even knowing or going to the doctor and getting anything done about his pain, now had been diagnosed with (Congestive Heart Failure, COPD, Sleep Apnea) and it also has damaged his kidneys, he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease stage 2. This terrified him and realizing you're self-employed with no insurance made it ten times worse.
Parkland provided some insurance and covered him for 6 months, after that he's had to go back every 6 months to renew. During this time his blood pressure has still been back and forth back and forth, the average for him was 185 /115 and that was an average for him.
He celebrated 45th birthday on this past June 16th. On June 18th being as busy as normal we had to prepare for two funerals, members of the church. On June 19, 2016 Father's Day would be the day that would change our lives forever.
At 7 a.m. I woke up like I normally do. I turned to Trae and said “baby it's time to get up, time to get ready for church”;he turned to the side like normal, laid there for a second then he stood up. I noticed he stumbled a little I asked him what was wrong at that time, he mumbled some words and I couldn't understand what was being said. As I turned to look at him as he mumbled at the time he made it to the end of the bed. I asked him “are you okay”? He mumbled again, next thing he did was sit down very hard on his chair then I said baby are you okay? He muffled again at this time I knew something was terribly wrong. I sat up turned the light switch on, I looked at his face, it was drooping a little and he was trying to talk to me. Immediately I jumped out the bed and ask if you want me to call 911, he shook his head yes, by this time I threw my clothes on…I had to grab him. While dialing 911 he was about to fall off the chair the I told the 911 operator he was either having a stroke or heart attack or something. At that moment I knew something was not right, they told me to let him slide on to the floor so he wouldn't fall. After I put him on the floor I ran to get my three-year-old daughter (Caydance) out of her bed, rushed her to the neighbor's house then returned home.
By the time I made it back to the house he was laying there non-responsive, he couldn't say hello, he couldn't shake his head, he couldn’t do anything…he was looking like he was in a deep sleep snoring and all. Once the paramedics got there they had to flip him over and tried to resuscitate him. They tried to assist him to see what was going on… they had no response.
Being that my husband is a very large man they had to wait on another group of paramedics to get there. When they finally got him on the tourniquet and pulled him into the kitchen to place him on the tourniquet properly, they put him on a stretcher and immediately took him to the ambulance. After they got him in the ambulance trying to stabilize him, they realized they had to get him an open Airway. They went through his nose blood-shot everywhere all over each and every one of the paramedics. After getting the blood off of them and trying to keep the blood inside of him due to so much blood that was still pouring out of him.
We rushed to the hospital, upon arriving at the hospital, I was told that he had a massive stroke! Which was a type of stroke that put bleeding on the brain. By the time we arrived to the hospital they already started to try to stablize him, his brain was swelling already. I found out two hours later that he was not a candidate for cranial surgery or any type of brain surgery because the swelling had already occurred. Later I found out that there was no movement and no activity, every activity that I saw was a reflex, praying to God that my husband show me something, some sign of movement or anything. My face is still strong. Realizing this time he is on life support.
I'm self-employed and if I don't go to work I don't make any money. Realizing I have a 3 year old daughter at home and the beauty shop, I am trying to be out here with him, it's a struggle because I know I'm going to have to go to work.
