Educational Grants for S.T.E.M. students in honor of Kiara L McDaniel
In April of 2016 while traveling home to prepare for her graduation from North Carolina A&T University with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry Kiara McDaniel was fatally injured in an automobile accident in rural Ohio.
While studying at North Carolina A&T University, she was heavily involved in several student support networks.
· NC A&T Chemistry Club
· Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students
· American Institute of Chemical Engineers
· National Society for Black Engineers
· Society of Women Engineers
Critical in preparing students to engage in high-level education, research and development is the forming of professional student support networks. These networks help to open doors for careers in industries across all sectors and help students to fund their educational journeys while preparing them for the world of work.
In Honor of Kiara McDaniel, who was to graduate in May of 2016, the family would like to award Memorial Grants to assist students pursuing an education in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
WHY IS THIS SUPPORT NEEDED?
· While the population of the US is 324 Million people
· Only 507,146 Bachelor’s Degrees are awarded in Science and Engineering each year.
· The total number of degrees awarded to African American Women in Science and Engineering represents only about 27,567 people a year
We want to help to lessen financial burdens and encourage more students to pursue an educations in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) in of honor Kiara.
