Support for Indian Residential School Survivors
For over a century, Indigenous children across Canada were forcibly removed from their families and communities and placed in residential schools. Run by the government and churches, the purpose of these schools was to ‘kill the Indian in the child’.
Last week the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc found the remains of 215 children at the Kamloops Residential School.
The impact of this horrific history will continue to be felt for generations. While the government and church organizations are being called to account, I believe as Canadians, we all have a responsibility to reconcile this history in our actions and intentions.
That’s why I’m asking you to join me in raising funds for the Indian Residential School Survivors Society
The IRSSS provides counselling, health and cultural support. They offer free workshops, operate a 24-hour crisis line, and have a team of Elders who provide support and guidance throughout British Columbia.
