The Karma Fund

Donation protected
Karma is a sweet and gentle dog recently brought into the animal hospital where I am a regular relief veterinarian. The local animal control officer found the emaciated dog wandering the streets in an area known to have an active dog fighting ring. The officer liked the dog right away because she was affectionate and eager for human contact, despite the pain she must have felt, and named her Karma.

When presented for care, I immediately said Karma needed fairly extensive surgery, as her right ear had been torn from her head, a large wound gaped above her right eye, and she had suffered many bite wounds to her neck and left ear, all horribly infected. She had obviously been starving for quite some time. However, financial constraints at animal control limited what they could let us do. But the staff and I all fell in love with Karma, her gentleness, and fun attitude, and we decided we would do what we could for her. However, as none of us own the hospital, we cannot donate supplies and equipment owned by the hospital.

We see a lot of animals in dire straits on a regular basis. But there is something special about this one.

Our hospital surgeon will perform surgery at a low cost, but we are looking at weeks to months of care for Karma to heal the horrific wounds she has suffered, very possibly as the result of being used as a bait dog or in fights, although she shows no dog aggression at all, and restore her to health so we can find Karma a forever home.

Therefore, we will use the funds to pay for the surgery, any follow up procedures, and the disposable products and medications we will need during Karma's convalescence.

Any extra funds will be used to continue this sort of work for other strays. We see many wonderful animals that have been injured but the shelter and the hospital can't afford to fix them all. What goes around, comes around. We can all use some good karma!

Yes, her ear was mostly torn off -- I removed what was left, as it was not salvageable, but we can help her skin cover that gaping wound. We can fix that deep wound over her eye. She has other injuries that are less serious. We can help her gain weight. We can help this wonderful dog recover from what had to have been a terrifying ordeal....with your help!

Thank you for any assistance you might want to provide!
