Keep Kelsey's Light Shining
Donation protected
Kelsey Lee Locke, 21 of Groveland, MA died December 6, 2018 in a tragic barn fire in Barnet, VT. She leaves her parents Maureen Lee-Locke of Groveland and Jon Locke of Haverhill; sister, Reanna Lee Locke, brother, Brandon Lee Locke, as well as a huge, loving extended family of relatives, friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers we want to keep the light shining. Donations will be used to honor Kelsey's memory by supporting the things she held so dear.
Kelsey and her mentor and friend Evan Perkins built a barn on his property in Vermont by hand without using so much as a nail. The barn is the life blood of a farm. We hope to honor her memory by rebuilding the barn she was so proud of,with a barn raising at Small Axe Farm.
A named scholarship at Greenfield Community College and creating a program to help children find the joy of nature will also be wonderful ways to honor Kelsey. Look for more information about a Memorial Hike in the spring.
Kelsey packed a lot of living into 21 years. She grew up in Groveland where she spent most of her time either skateboarding, hiking or working as a snowboard instructor at Ski Bradford. She attended Whittier Technical High School to learn about carpentry. After graduating high school she moved to Greenfield MA to study outdoor leadership at Greenfield Community College, earning certifications in whitewater canoeing, sea kayaking, challenge course, and rock climbing and was able to travel to Ecuador with her teacher and classmates to summit Mt. Cayambe. After graduating in 2016 she moved to Vermont to spend a couple summers learning about organic farming, and to spend the winters working and riding at Burke Mountain. She was excited about her winter job at Burke, summer travel plans to Scotland and returning to Greenfield in the fall to study sustainable farming.
Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and the wonderful stories about Kelsey you have been sending our way,
With love,
