Kelly Watts Memorial

On Wednesday September 7th, 2016 we learned that our dear colleague, Kelly Watts, passed away. 

Kelly worked within the Emory neuroscience community.  She did her graduate work in Psychology and has been working in the Hu Lab on biomarkers for Alzheimer's Disease, frontotemporal dementia, and ALS since 2010.  She loved her job and was the driving force behind standardization of bioassays in the lab, development of new markers, and application of these markers to clinical trials in Alzheimer's disease and basic mechanisms underlying familial FTD.   She was fascinated with the brain and was always concerned for her family’s well-being in matters of the brain and health.

Kelly was a founding member and the cornerstone of our group and no words can adequately describe our pain and despair dealing with her untimely passing. She greatly impacted all of her coworkers and fellow researchers with her diligence and thoughtfulness. Losing her has affected us all and will have a lasting impact on the Alzheimer and FTD community.

Kelly was a conscientious, perceptive, and kind person who touched many of our lives with optimism and grace. 

Kelly leaves behind her greatest love, pride, and joy, her young sons: Sullivan, Harrison, and Mitchell. She was so proud of Sullivan for his nurturing spirit, Harrison’s determination and vibrant spirit, and Mitchell’s hugs gave Kelly her strength.

Help us to raise funds on behalf of Kelly's family to allow the joys of her life to regain a sense of stability and to do the things they would do along with their loving mother, including traveling to see their beloved family, attend summer camps, and save for college.
