Ken Baca’s TBI Recovery Fundraiser

On December 14, 2022, our lives were forever changed when Kendivis, my nephew a vibrant and outgoing 19-year-old, was on his way home from a camping trip that ended in disaster. A collision with another vehicle caused Kendivis and his friends to be ejected from their jeep. While two friends suffered minor injuries, Kendivis bore the brunt of the impact, sustaining a crushed skull, severe road rash, a heart contusion, and numerous scrapes and bruises. His doctors performed emergency surgery, removing part of his skull and small portion of brain to save his life.

In the past year since the accident, Kendivis has fought valiantly for his life, overcoming numerous obstacles including a coma, two strokes, and severe infections. Several craniotomy's, has a permanent shunt that drains the continual build up of spinal fluid from his brain. Against all odds, he has surpassed initial expectations, defying the prognosis given by doctors who feared he might not survive beyond the first 48 hours.

Our family is now faced with the daunting task of covering Kendivis's medical bills, ongoing rehabilitation, and daily care needs. He is partially paralyzed on his left side, nonverbal, and wheelchair-bound.
