ET1 Kevin S. Bushell was one of ten U.S. Navy sailors who lost their lives on the USS John S. McCain when it collided with an oil tanker on August 21, 2017.
Kevin was a loved son and brother, a dedicated sailor, and a loyal friend. He was an indescribably positive person who touched the hearts of nearly everyone he met. Those who knew him would tell you that you would be hard-pressed to find him wearing anything but a smile. He had an uncanny ability to make you laugh at will and could easily find the silver lining in every dark cloud. He was universally loved because he loved unconditionally.
Keeping in the spirit of Kevin's optimistic nature, his family decided that they had to keep this going. They created a nonprofit Foundation in 2019 (Kevin Bushell Foundation) and have continued to raise money to award scholarships to seniors that attend Gaithersburg High School. In 2017 they awarded 2 scholarships and in 2018 they awarded 3 scholarships. The 2019-2020 scholarship application will be available soon.
The Foundation then partnered with the Goshen Elementary PTA to help students and teachers at Goshen. In the 2018-2019 school year the Foundation donated over $700. in miscellaneous school supplies, board games, basket ball hoops, a new Maryland Flag, and landscaping for the school.
Thank you for your donation! The goal is to memorialize Kevin's life by making a positive difference in someone else's. Kevin would definitely approve.
Below you will find a short slideshow made in Kevin's memory, please feel free to watch it if you wish. It will bring a smile to your face!
Sincerely,
