Jason's Kidney Transplant and After Care Expenses
My name is Jason Collier. I developed Type 2 Diabetes when I was in my 20's. Because of my financial situation, I couldn't afford the costs of doctor visits or medications. I had insufficient medical coverage at the time. Having it go untreated for so long, it wreaked havoc on my kidneys. In December of 2016, both of my kidneys failed and I had issues with my heart.
I had surgery to place (3) stents in my heart and was referred for dialysis treatments at that time. I have been receiving dialysis treatments 3 times a week since 12/17/2016.
Fast forward to 1/3/2020 when I met with my transplant team at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA. That appointment was to determine whether or not I was a candidate for transplant at that time. As a part of prep, I was instructed to set an appointment to check on my heart stents and see if my heart could withstand transplant surgery. When the Cardio team got in there, they realized that 5 arteries were between 50-70% clogged and scheduled me for a 5-way bypass (2 weeks later). That was in August of 2020. After a few months of healing, Swedish sent me in for a stress test. That came back clean/good, so Swedish concluded that I AM a great candidate for transplant surgery.
IMMEDIATE NEEDS:
I am currently at or near the top of the transplant list, so I can receive a call at any time with an offer for a kidney. My immediate needs are to cover the following:
*$4,000 for the out of pocket expense for transplant surgery, hospital stays, and office visits. This amount will cover me for the remainder of 2021.
*$1,500 for the deductible for the surgery, itself.
*Estimated $1,000 per week for me and my caregiver (my girlfriend, Candace) to stay near Swedish Medical Center. The transplant team anticipates us having to stay up there for a minimum of 2-3 weeks. I will have to return to Swedish every other day for office visits, labs, and anti-rejection medication. They want us to be close to the hospital. Commuting back and forth is not an option because we are an hour and a half away.
*Estimated $20-$30 per day for transport back and forth from hotel to Swedish. Most hotels we have looked at charge more than that per day JUST for parking!
All other funds will go toward paying for medications and unforeseen medical bills that may arise post-transplant.
A donation of $5-$10 would pay for one of my medications AND that donation would also go toward the deductible for my meds
A donation of $20-$30 would pay for an Uber round trip (from room to Swedish)
All other funds will go toward lodging and bills.
I've been a musician for over 30 years, I love my kids and fishing. I can't wait to run and play with my kids again, spend time on the river, and jam is a sweaty ass room with my boys.
Thank you for your support, love, prayers, and well-wishes. ANY help is greatly appreciated as this is an urgent need.
