Kidney transplant support for Christina Lawson
Donation protected
Hi everyone, Christina here!!!
In August 2006, I was diagnosed with Goodpasture’s Disease/Syndrome. I’m sure many of you have not heard of this disease, and neither had I. Goodpasture's Syndrome (also known as
Anti-Glomerular Membraine (Anti-GBM Disease) is an uncommon autoimmune disease that affects both the kidneys and the lungs. An autoimmune disease means that the immune system, which usually protects the body from infection, attacks healthy body parts by mistake. Goodpasture’s was discovered in 1919 and currently affects less than 2 cases per 1 million people.
MY STORY:
• I was put on dialysis in August 2006 while awaiting kidney transplant approval through Mayo.
• In mid-2008, my only working kidney which was about 25% to 30% started functioning again and I
• was removed from the transplant list and taken off dialysis.
• In the past couple of years my kidney has started to slow down as your body does with normal aging and I am now in need of a transplant. I am hoping to receive one before I must go on dialysis again.
• This disease does not show its ugly face in the light of day or night. It is all internal; while I look and act like I am fine, my body is slowing down and energy is hard to come by.
WHAT’S NEXT???
• After many tests, I have finally been approved through Mayo for a transplant.
• HOWEVER: To be eligible for a transplant and to start building “time” I must raise $10,000 for caregivers and medicine for 1 year. I have created this GO FUND ME campaign and am asking for donations.
• I am also in search of a living donor. Please consider being tested and or sharing my story.
• Thanks for visiting my page!!! I would be honored if you would join me on this crusade and any support you are gracious enough to consider is greatly appreciated, ………#christinascrusaders
