Kim Ray's Medical Journey
Donation protected
Many of you know her as Kim Ray, some as Kim Bader, and others as Ms. Kim. But my siblings and I are lucky enough to call her Mom - and although cliche, sometimes Momma Bear. Whether you've known her your entire life or just a few short years, we can all agree that the term warrior also fits her well. She has never been afraid of a battle, especially if that battle involved her kids. We all have things we love about her, but my personal favorite is that she fights fiercely and loves unconditionally.
Sadly, in 2019 she began fighting the biggest battle of her life when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer. I wasn't prepared for what true bravery looked it. Bravery is having five surgeries and twenty-five chemo and targeted therapy treatments, only for the cancer to return twice. It's holding it together when you've been told that those agonizing treatments are no longer working and the cancer has now entered your lymph nodes. I thought bravery was not being afraid, but my mom has taught us that bravery is being terrified and doing it anyway.
My mom continues to fight with courage and determination. Today, she is faced with the difficult decision of whether or not she wants to embark on a possible clinical trial since the treatments are no longer working. Unfortunately, this would require weekly trips downtown since MDA The Woodlands does not offer this option. As you can imagine, medical bills are stacking up, and funds are becoming a challenge, especially with a limited income. And as with life, when it rains, it pours. Their main vehicle has decided it needs a new transmission.
With all of the trials and tribulations our mom has helped us conquer, it's time for us to do the same for her. Any small donation is appreciated if you feel compelled, but BIG prayers are most important.
Thank you for the support.
