Open Your Heart to Help H.O.U.S.E. Us
Hello amazing humans!! My name is Iamfaith(Nicki Turner). I am a non-binary trans Navy veteran. I currently work at a major nonprofit, but I am separately raising money to purchase a 13 bedroom/ 9 bath house to give permanent housing to 8-16 queer/ trans youth of color. Finding temporary housing for transgender humans is even harder during the pandemic. Having no place to go and left without answers or options, is the reality for many transgender humans. This is a social media campaign to let the community help their own. Our trans youth are all humans, and deserve basic resources of food, sufficient housing and access to resources to help them thrive.
Backstory
I started fundraising for transgender humans because I knew what is was like to feel like an outcast; to be homeless; having my stomach hurt so hard because of the inability to access food; to feel ostracized for expressing my truth and being denied for being who I am. We are no longer victims and will work to express our truth, while demanding equal pay; adequate job opportunities; basic and advanced medical care; and the right live in a world that was given to us.
We started fundraising for this house back in March 24th and had made an earnest deposit to secure escrow. At that time, the name on the contract was a company name Modern Estate Solutions. There intentions was to only be a placeholder til we raise the funds, then at point of sale the house would be donated to a my nonprofit organization, that organization is going to be Helping F.A.I.T.H. Inc, but soon found out that they would need the assistance of well established nonprofit to receive and maintain. Now we are just fundraising til we get to our goal!!
What will we do with the house?
We provide permanent supportive housing to 8-16 trans identifying humans of color.
Helping F.A.I.T.H. Inc. Is leading the fundraising efforts. This endeavor started before current employment. They are an supportive services organization that will provide resources to African American/ black, lesbian, gay, transgender, non-binary humans. Currently we’re fundraising for a home in Korea town to house trans/ non-binary/ intersex youth aged from 13-29. This is a moment to create stabilization through housing.
Problem of unstable housing that’s affecting transgender humans and those alike.
Complex trauma of homelessness effects how we see the world and ourselves. Our trans brothers and sisters of color are experiencing homelessness at
alarming rates; because of the family and peer rejection. That rejection can lead to homelessness that can lead to prostitution; excessive illicit drug abuse, chronic high risk behavior that can result mental and physical anguish.
Why this house? This house just happen to be randomly found, to meet the needs of a well
positioned group home.
When you get the house, how will it be staffed, managed and operated?
My primary work( established nonprofit) has spoke that they are supportive to assist with recruitment of staff, participant recruitment, and implementation of services and programs.
Getting this house will provide:
-Personalized individual access to programs and services that foster safe and supportive healthy environments for people to live, learn
and develop.
-Transitional living that creates direct link referrals for behavior health, sexual health and other programs that add value to community
members.
- Strengths- based sessions and follow up
-recovery management services
-comprehensive services to justice involved individuals
- access to such organizations that are black led that is aimed to develop the next generation of leadership and community organizers
while increasing awareness and support of black trans lives
-programs that are committed to providing an educational and social experience designed to provide education, support around mental,
sexual, physical and emotional health as well as substance use.
The work will and must continue to move in the right direction for our future.
I have deep Faith in this project. Lets get this home, so our queer youth can have a house full of love and wellness. Our children are our
future doctors, lawyers, politicians, front line workers, and teachers. We need them just as much as they need us. Let's care for our future together. Its our responsibility to teach our brothers and sisters of the community.
If you're not financially in the position to give and you want to help make a difference, can you kindly share the mission on your social
platforms?
Will you humbly and abundantly join in the opportunity to H.O.U.S. E. us. Simply
just helping our underserved sisters(not gender specific) equally. This is all for the love of our trans youth.
I sincerely thank you for your time.
