Kings Army, 7 days, 340 miles to prevent cancer!

Donation protected
My name is Joe Humphreys and I have been a member of the Thames Valley Kings wheelchair basketball club for around 12 years now. The club was founded by Jacqueline Scoins-Cass back in 2004. Since then the club has provided many opportunities not just within sport but within the community and has been a very resourceful place for many.

Since 2004 Jacqueline has worked incredibly hard to provide these opportunities for hundreds of disabled people through her work with the club, all of which has been done on a voluntary basis. Jacqueline has inspired so many people and shown support to everybody who has needed it along her path, as well as that she has won and been nominated for numerous awards including a very well-deserved MBE. Jacqueline received some bad news in November 2019 and was diagnosed with breast cancer. This news hit many people hard including myself, for a woman who has given everything to everyone and is important and loved by so many this was simply unfair and I decided I wanted to give back to her whilst she battles with her cancer.

Myself along with other members of the club will be taking part in a 340-mile trip in seven days between the members involved. 340 miles is the distance to Sheffield and back from the Kings home base. Members will be taking on the miles through pushing, running, cycling and rowing from August 31st to September 6th. The money raised will be split 50/50 between a breast cancer charity called Breast cancer now who continue daily to research ways of stopping breast cancer. The other half of the money will be going to the wheelchair basketball club which was founded by Jacqueline Thames Valley Kings.
LET US MEET THE TEAM INVOLVED…

Patrick- Patrick has been a member of the kings for two years here’s what he has to say “ I’ve been a member of the club for two years but it has been the best two years I’ve had in the sport, all off the back of a little weekend hobby Jacqueline had 15 years ago”

Chris- Chris has developed a huge passion for the sport thanks to Jacqueline. “If it wasn’t for Jaqueline encouraging me joining four years ago, I wouldn’t of had a chance to be involved with the sport I have loved my whole life”

Fiona and PJ- Fiona and PJ have been members of the club for two years. Fiona is mum to PJ and wife to Patrick and would like to support her boys and Jacqueline by taking part. PJ has been a division one player for the kings this season and has developed so much in his game.
