K'Naya's Flying Journey

Hi,
My name is K'Naya Williams and I am a current native of Henderson, North Carolina. I am a 16-year-old African American female student at Vance County High School and currently participating in the North Carolina State University Upward Bound Program.
I am currently pursuing my dream of becoming a pilot, with hopes to one day fly for the United States Air Force. I will be a first-generational college student as well as a first-generational pilot.
Where I come from, violence is normalized, being intelligent isn't considered cool, and escaping this small town is only a fantasy. Growing up I always knew that I didn't want to stay in this small town for the rest of my life. At a young age, I knew that God had something BIG prepared for my life. Where I'm from, caring about your future and pursuing your dreams aren't normalized and some even consider it impossible.
From my first experience in an aircraft, I knew that I wanted to fly planes for the rest of my life. Being able to do what I love at 16 years old and share this experience with others has been a dream come true. In the aviation industry, you don't see many young, Black, females. I want to be able to normalize seeing more people who look like me in aviation. I want to encourage young men and women who wish to pursue aviation careers.
100% of the funds will go towards getting my private pilot license and me pursuing my future career of being a pilot in the aviation industry.
