Hello there! My name is Toby Canto and I'm an independent filmmaker originally hailing from Tucson, AZ and now living in Austin, TX. I'm currently in pre-production on a new horror-comedy short film, called 'Knock Knock', and I need your help to make it!
'Knock Knock', is a throwback to some of my favorite monster movies of the 80s (i.e. 'Ghostbusters', 'The Monster Squad', 'Fright Night', etc.) with a dash of 'Twilight Zone' thrown in. It was wonderfully described by a friend as 'The Evil Dead meets Scooby Doo'.
It tells the story of a down on his luck former boxer named Sam, on the eve of his 60th birthday. After a very long days' work, he gets back to his apartment to find himself surrounded by his offbeat and quirky neighbors: Olivia, Dragon, and Gretchen. What follows is a back and forth debate to decide whether their apartment complex's newest and mysterious resident, is a member of the undead or not.
We're planning to get the film rolling in January 2016. Majority of the funds will go towards the renting or purchasing of equipment such as lights, mics, audio recorders, sliders and stedi-cams for the movies' more elaborate shots. Since this is mostly a dialogue-driven film, renting a second camera would really help with moving the production process along smoothly. Additionally, putting serious money into our make-up, special effects, and set design departments would make the creepier and more colorful details of this piece come alive. Also, let’s not forget how happier cast and crews are with a better, tastier craft table! We're also hoping to hit a few festivals afterwards so the money would help us cover some of the fees.
I've been assembling an exciting team of people. Actors that are bringing the characters off the page. Conceptional and make-up artists, costume and set-designers that are helping me develop the tone I want set and make the visuals playing in my head pop with unique colors and designs. There will be tons of references and visual gags tied to other classic horror flicks that will hopefully keep the most dedicated horror fans looking. Together with my team, and hopefully your funding, we have some wonderful ideas of how to make 'Knock Knock' stand out from the rest!
