Help us! Koh lipe's dogs & cats lost their home
Donation protected
Koh Lipe’s Dogs and Cats urgently need your help! We lost our shelter, but with your help we can continue to provide care, love and a home for our 4-legged friends.
Our background - A summary:
Our founders Desiree and Phil started Halfway House 4 Paws 8 years ago. They started out small and soon built a community of volunteers and animal lovers.
They introduced a feeding program, medical care, sterilization clinics and adoption programs and thus helped hundreds of animals on Koh Lipe. In 2019 they built the shelter, which became a new home for countless animals in need. They supported this project all the way through the difficult Covid times. But now we really need your help. Our founders cannot carry the burden by themselves anymore and we will lost the shelter on August 1st 2023.
To continue this fantastic project and build a new home for the animals in need, we need you! With your contribution we can find new land to build a shelter. We can feed the stray animals on Lipe and continue providing aid for the dogs and cats in need. And we can continue our sterilization program, helping to control the population on the island. With your help we can keep this project alive!
Thank you for your kindness and contribution!
WHO WE ARE
We are an NGO set up to help stray animals on the small island of Koh Lipe in Thailand. Since our founding in 2014, we have improved the lives of hundreds of cats, dogs and other animals that needed our help. With the aid of countless volunteers and partners we have managed to not only build an animal shelter in 2019, but we also set up a tried and tested spay and neuter program, as well as an island wide feeding initiative.
Sounds great right? Well, it was, but then Covid came along. We managed to pull through until now, but on the 1. August 2023, we lost the land our shelter was built on to a neighbouring hotel. The shelter was home to countless dogs and cats, treatment center and contact point for all animal related issues on the island. But we are not going to give up! Together with you and countless other volunteers and contributors, we will do everything to keep this project alive!
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
When Covid hit, our guesthouse had to be closed, taking away the main source of financing for the project. We managed to keep going by collecting donations from visitors, volunteers and friends. The Swiss owners of the NGO also contributed a great amount of their private fortune. Last year however, the situation changed for the worse. Both of our founders have fallen seriously ill and are no longer able to manage the foundation and provide sufficient funding to keep the operation going. This led to us losing the land the shelter was built on. In the last couple of months, we have worked tirelessly to find homes for as many animals as possible. Nonetheless, we are left with 16 dogs and 12 cats who immediately depend on us to provide them with a place to live. Some of these animals have disabilities, while many of the dogs still suffer from the long-term effects of a canine distemper outbreak on the island in March this year. But not only the shelter animals depend on us. 90% of all dogs and cats on the island survive due to our feeding and medical care program, which is entirely financed by the NGO. If this program ends due to a lack of funds, many of the animals will face death through poisoning or starvation. This is where you come in. We want you to join our fight to keep this great program alive, which benefits so many animals and humans on this wonderful island. With your help, we can continue to buy food! With your help we can treat nasty diseases like cancer, blood parasites and effects from poisoning! With your help we can organize spay and neuter clinics with the aim of controlling the population on the island! In short, we really need your help to give these animals a chance and live a life that is worth living.
WHAT YOUR MONEY WILL BE USED FOR
1) Urgent:
The two most pressing issues we face is a lack of funds for medicine and food. With your contribution you can help feed 170+ dogs and 200+ cats who need our help. Furthermore, many of the animals rely on vital medicine used to treat blood parasites, heart worm, cancer and a variety of other common diseases prevalent on the island. Basic medication that we require daily (e.g., Betadine, Saline Water, Bravecto...) is also running low and we urgently require financial help to stock up on these basics.
Monthly Cost for Food:
Approx. 38000 THB / 1000 Euro
Monthly Cost for Medication:
Approx. 25000 THB / 650 Euro
2) Important:
Sterilisation clinics require comprehensive planning and cost a substantial amount of money. Pre-Covid, spay and neuter clinics where organized every 2 to 3 months, meaning a qualified veterinarian and his team spent 2 to 3 days on the island sterilizing up to 60 animals in one go. During Covid we managed to keep going by organizing a clinic every 6 to 8 months with 80+ animals being sterilized in one go. Due to these efforts the population is currently under control. To keep it this way, we need your help to collect sufficient funds to plan the next clinic (ideally 4 to 5 months from now).
Cost for one clinic:
Approx. 90000 THB / 2400 Euro
Thank you very much for taking the time to read and consider our call for help. We truly appreciate any form of help you can provide. Together with you, we can continue to make a difference, safe lives and do something good for these wonderful animals who rely on our help and kindness.
