Help Kyra get back on her feet!

8/25/23 Update: Kyra has been in the hospital for 4 days now. She had a D&C to remove the fluids that was causing the secondary infection and now the fibroids are starting to try and leave her body. Unfortunately, they are not fully leaving her body and are basically stuck and need to be surgically removed, so she will be having a myomectomy. This will require a recovery time of 6-8 weeks, meaning she will not be able to work for quite a bit. I will continue to keep the gofund me up as well as working on a meal train ❤️.

My name is Rachel and I am raising funds for my best friend, Kyra. She is a single mother of a beautiful 9-year-old daughter and recently had to make the most difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy of her second child because of severe health complications. She is the owner of a small cleaning business where she is the sole employee. Due to the massive amount of medical complications she has endured during the pregnancy and now, after, she has been unable to work, causing great financial hardship on her and her daughter.

To give a little more information on what has happened with her, here are some words from Kyra, herself, describing her situation.

“Few know my story and for those who don’t, I am no longer expecting. Back in April, I found out that I had an 8cm fibroid. A month later, the fibroid grew to 17cm. It caused me so much pain as it began to randomly degenerate. I felt that it wasn’t fair. I was 19 weeks measuring at 36 weeks. Doctors asked me if I considered terminating the pregnancy as it would only get worse. Before making my decision, I did everything that I could to make sure that it was a sound decision. In the course of meeting with high risk doctors, things began to get worse. My doctors told me that I could continue the pregnancy with opioids until I was 32 weeks and no pain meds after 32 weeks. This meant that I was putting myself and the baby in harm as opioids would’ve been addictive to the both of us and caused health issues for the baby. I wasn’t me. I was depressed. I had no energy. I suffered from severe migraines. My daughter saw it. My family saw it. My friends saw it. My doctors saw it. Last week, I went into preterm labor and decided that I needed to make a decision, rather quickly. My dad was with me while I was under anesthesia. I felt his presence and I heard him tell me that everything was going to be alright. My village has shown up for me in more ways than you can imagine. From being supportive in my decision without judging to making sure that my daughter and I had food while I began to recover.”

About 3 weeks after the termination, Kyra felt okay enough to travel just a short distance to Michigan for a family day with her daughter and close friends. While she was sitting watching her daughter and friends' children play, she began to feel weird, and began shaking out of nowhere. She was cold, then hot, then cold again. Her friend decided to call for an ambulance, and it’s a good thing she did! Kyra was running a fever of 103 and was told by the doctors that she was septic. A fibroid was degenerating, leaking fluid which caused bacteria to get into her bloodstream. She needed another procedure to try and remove the leaking fluid, and spent a week in the hospital on a heart rate monitor, countless blood draws, cultures, 2 CT scans, chest Xray, fevers, vomiting, and absolutely no appetite. She was told that had she continued the pregnancy, she and the baby would not have faired well with the sepsis.

She came home from the hospital on Saturday and as of today, August 22, she is back at the ER with what looks like another infection. We are REALLY hoping that the doctors will be able to figure out what the issue is and can fix it without having to have an entire hysterectomy that could take her a few months to recover.

She is one that NEVER asks for anything, but always willing to be there for you when you need her. Would give the shirt off her back for the people she cares about. In the almost 20 years I’ve known her, she’s worked hard for her family and friends, and I wanted to return that favor for her and try and ease some the stress that is not helping her medical issues currently.

Any amount you could spare would be greatly appreciated by Kyra. We appreciate all the support she has been given so far! <3
