Luck & Courage Brewery

"Sometimes all you need is a little Luck & Courage."

Luck & Courage is a start-up brewery slated to open soon in Sacramento.

We're committed to beer-novating fresh and novel brews for your tasting experience.

It started with honey — lots and lots of honey. Jonathan Saint James's grandmother was a beekeeper for most of her many days on Earth. Curiously, whenever a family member asked Grandma for some honey, she was always "fresh out". Following her passing, Jonathan's family was charged with the common, painful and tedious task of cleaning out Grandma's home. When they reached the garage, they unearthed scads of honey in such enormous abundance, it could have been an Egyptian Pharaoh's tomb. What could be done with 50 gallons of honey?

For Jonathan, it was clear: when life gives you honey, make mead. With the help of his roommate — a knowledgeable and enthusiastic homebrewer — Jonathan embarked on his first ever adventure in fermentation. His final product was so good, a honey-loving bear would've endorsed it.

After several successful batches of mead, Jonathan tried his hand at brewing his own beer. He fell madly in love with the art and science behind crafting America's most consumed alcoholic beverage.

In 2014, Jonathan met his match in homebrew enthusiasm: Kyle Carlson. Jonathan and Kyle's fast-growing friendship soon turned into a business partnership.

It was that same year that Jonathan and his father Nicholas had decided to open their own brewery — Luck & Courage. As they grew to know Kyle, it was evident that he would make the third spoke of a beer-making trifecta. Fast forward to 2016: Luck and Courage signed a lease on a promising space and began legal filings to become a commercial brewing company.

Luck & Courage is envisioned by locals, for locals. We are zealous beer-novators, eager to bring new and interesting flavors to our Northern California audience and beyond. Our vast taproom will feature a stage, where local and visiting artists of all kinds will deliver live performances. The walls will be donned with local artwork, and the room will be a place for community, camaraderie, creativity, and incredible beer.

As wholehearted brewsky devotees, we know there is a ready-to-receive market for high quality, malt forward, and aged products. Second to brewing top-tier products, Luck & Courage is committed to the Sacramento regional economy by buying local ingredients and merchandise. Currently, we partner with a local farm to get fresh hops, and we hope to expand our ability to strengthen local enterprises like our own through similar partnerships.

Your donation will allow us to invest into many facets of the brewery. For example, the creation of new experimental fermentation and barrel programs. These programs will enable us to introduce fresh and novel sour beers, as well as use oak barrels to enhance the flavor and aroma of our aged beers. Contributions from this campaign will also give us the ability to accommodate local bands and creators to provide you with quality entertainment and art experiences.

To acknowledge your generosity, we're offering limited edition glassware and apparel. The t-shirts are made by a local artist, and the gold-rimmed pint glasses mark the beginning of a what we hope will become a valued pride of the community.

Thank you so much for your continued support and we hope to share a pint with you soon. There are great breweries that make good beer — we want to be a good brewery that makes great beer.
