In July of 2018, 28 year old Lyndsay Sharpe experienced flu like symptoms for several days. Family and friends visited and checked in with her routinely. Day four she was found unresponsive and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. It was determined that she was suffering from Tylenol toxicity and the illness that mimicked flu symptoms turned out to be acute liver failure. She was transferred to the Univesity of Michigan Medical Center where she was evaluated closely. Four days later, she received a new liver. She remained in a coma for weeks and slowly began to regain some functions. She spent over three months at U of M and was then discharged to a rehab facility specific to brain injury. It has been determined that she has suffered a hypoxic brain injury and while she has made improvement, she has a long road ahead. Lyndsay was abruptly discharged from the rehab facility with under 48 hours notice because her insurance carrier determined “she was not making enough progress.” Her mother, Anne was suddenly thrust into the role of primary caregiver, with no direction and little help from the system. Lyndsay requires 24/7 care. The financial burden outside of the insurance coverage is overwhelming. There are multiple medications she requires in addition to medical and handicapped equipment, physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, multiple doctors appointments, blood draws, and so on. As a close friend, I have offered to set up this account to ask you for any assistance you can provide. The monies will be deposited into a savings account in Anne’s name and she will use these funds as necessary for Lyndsay’s care and needs. Thank you in advance for any consideration.
