Lucy and Faris, Running The Hackney Half!

Five years since we lost Ben to suicide.

Five years since The Ben Raemers Foundation was created.

Suicide is a preventable death and one that through training and creating these spaces can save lives.

Lucy and Faris are taking on the Hackney Half in memory of Ben, a brother and a friend, to raise funding and awareness for The Ben Raemers Foundation.

The last time Lucy created a Go Fund Me page was ahead of the London Marathon in 2021, in the thick of grief, following Ben’s passing. Lucy was a newfound runner, and to this day, feels that running saved her life.

The marathon training was gruelling, the 26.2 miles was gruelling but keeping her why at the forefront kept one foot in front of the other. The ‘why’? Ben. It’s Lucy’s mission to continue to raise as much awareness of suicide prevention as possible and to coincide this with raising funds to hold training and education on this is so important for Lucy.

It’s been a few years since the marathon and in those few years The Ben Raemers Foundation has grown, seeing them globally facilitate their own suicide prevention training and creating spaces for the skateboarding community to have those conversations with the right tools and more confidence that can save lives.

Faris is quite new to running but has been skateboarding for a fair few years and whole-heartedly supports The Ben Raemers Foundation, championing what they have been doing in the community over the last few years. This run is Faris’ way of giving back, raising more awareness, and further supporting an organisation that is close to his heart.

Keep checking in on the ones you love, especially the ones your gut is telling you to check in with. Remember that we never know how others are feeling, and everyone deserves to feel seen, heard and supported.

This run is a special one. It’s for Ben, it’s for The Ben Raemers Foundation, it’s for every soul lost to suicide, it’s for everyone left behind in the ripple of suicide grief.

Every donation, share of this page, keeps Ben’s legacy alive, helping towards creating spaces and facilitating more suicide prevention training.
