Laptops for Lockdown Kids
Donation protected
We want to ensure that every child in our area of RBKC has the technology to keep up with their learning while schools are closed. In our very diverse neighbourhood, some kids are learning on mobile phones or missing out on online teaching altogether. Others have limited access to devices shared between siblings and working parents. We want to raise money as fast as possible to buy laptops for our local primary schools - St Mary Abbots and St Barnabas & St Philip's - so that they can be distributed to the most needy pupils now. If all goes well, we'd like to support other local schools too.
The schools have said they would prefer laptops as they are better suited to Google Classroom and home learning. They can buy the models needed for £300 each. After the lockdown the laptops will be returned to the schools and to be used by all pupils; so this is also long-term support for local primaries.
As the mum of three small boys and a primary school governor, I know how tough home schooling is for parents and carers. But for those without the technology and resources to help it can be nearly impossible. Research shows that every day of education is vitally important for primary school children and missing out on early stages can seriously impact life chances, particularly those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Technology can make all the difference right now. Please help!
