Help Amelia Have a Home #AmeliasHouse

Donation protected
Meet Amelia Grapperhaus! Many of us LOVE Amelia and her family (Will, Brandy, Liam & Ellie). She was born deaf, mute, has cerebral palsy, and is severely mentally handicapped. Her life and the life of her family are very hard, but you would never know it from their smiles. Caring for her as she has aged (Amelia is 20) has become more difficult. This family never complains! However, those of us who know them well realize the daily demands, stresses, and financial strains of raising a special needs child.

My wife, Angie Gordon, has been wanting to help provide a more suitable home for Amelia’s special needs for years. One morning recently, she woke up unusually early. During her quiet time, she came up with the idea of Amelia’s House. When I got up, Angie asked if we could donate land, raise money and build a house for Amelia and her family. I immediately said, Yes! #AmeliasHouse was birthed!

Will & Brandy serve as worship leaders at GracePointe Baptist Church in New Market, Alabama. Brandy also coordinates Lunches of Love which provides weekend lunches for under-resourced children in a nearby elementary school. Recently, they have begun working with our students also. They do so much for others! This is our opportunity to do something really special for them. They are humble and overwhelmed people would do this for them. That’s just who they are!

My name is Bobby Gordon and I am a longtime friend of the Grapperhaus Family. Amelia’s House will be owned and operated by Legacy Ridge Ministries which is a nonprofit 501c3 organization. Amelia and her family will be able to live there as long as she needs to. Then Amelia’s House will be available for another family with special needs children. Long after we are gone, our / your gift will continue to provide a special place for a special family with special needs.

With your help, we will build Amelia’s House. No Donation is too small! Seriously, please don’t think your gift won’t matter. It will! This is a grassroots effort to do something beautiful for a deserving family. Together, we will be able to make Amelia’s House a reality. Please share this opportunity to make a difference with as many people as possible. For those who have children, include them in the joy of giving. You may even want to consider having a fundraiser yourself or with some friends to be able to give even more to help provide Amelia with a special home.

We have already begun to clear the treed lot where Amelia’s House will be built. House plans have been drafted. We will coordinate volunteer labor and seek discounted materials to make sure this project is as cost-effective as possible. You are giving your hard-earned money and we want to stretch it as far as it will go. Our volunteer Board of Directors will make sure your donation is handled with integrity. We too want our money to make a difference. The donated funds will be transferred into Legacy Ridge Ministries bank account and used to build Amelia's House. Once we reach our initial goal of $75,000, we will use the money to dig and pour the foundation and purchase building materials. Yes, we will have to raise more to complete the project. If you have experience in grant writing, soliciting corporate support, or fundraising, please let us know. Thank you in advance for your prayers, generosity, and help!

The beautiful wooded lot where Amelia’s House will be built is part of 50 acres called Legacy Ridge. Near Amelia’s House, we will develop a wheelchair-accessible fishing pond, trails, playground, picnic area, pavilion, and other features that enhance the outdoor enjoyment of families with special needs children. We also have plans to offer equine experiences for special needs and under-resourced children. In other words, Amelia’s House is part of a bigger vision to support families who give so much day in and day out to care for others. Legacy Ridge overlooks the Brier Fork Flint River. This natural setting is perfect for hosting renewal retreats and getaways for those who need a break. #AmeliasHouse will be located in a one-of-a-kind setting that will make it special in many ways.

We don’t want this request to be a financial burden on anyone. If a large network of people see and read this fundraising request, then together we can make a big difference with our money. Please pass this giving opportunity along to everyone in your social network. Let them know you have given and encourage them to give also. They will not know us, but they will know you and your influence will encourage their participation. Again, thank you in advance for your help and your trust. We will keep you updated on our progress.

If you prefer to write a check, please make checks out to Legacy Ridge Ministries with #AmeliasHouse on the memo line and mail to 237 Lacy Lane, Huntsville, AL 35811. Angie and I (Bobby Gordon), along with our Board of Directors (Andrew & Courtney Hanks and Norman & Julie Russell) are very grateful for your interest in helping us provide a special home for Amelia and her family to enjoy. If you would like to help volunteer, let us know what you can do. Legacy Ridge is a special place where strength is renewed and hope is restored. #AmeliasHouse will be amazing!

Gratefully,
Bobby & Angie Gordon
