Shannon Chatfield is my big sister who I have always looked up to, my four year old son Oliver’s favorite aunt, mother of two Boston Terriers, daughter to one sweet Carol Mannino, little sister to Seth Chatfield. A Caring, Selfless and Hilariously Funny Human Being.
Shannon lives in Brooklyn, New York and works full time in Manhattan as a Copywriter and Content Marketing Specialist. She has been working hard to not miss work and at the same time needing to take days and time off to attend multiple doctors appointments and tests each week.
About 2 months ago she was diagnosed with ER+ / HER2- Breast Cancer. A month ago I left my sweet boy with his dad and flew here to be beside her.
I started a GO fund me campaign for her because living in NY is no joke expensive, and for the past two months of testing she's been more concerned with working to pay the bills then starting the necessary treatments, or even taking a day off to process and digest this new reality.
Initially we thought this would be an outpatient hormonal therapy treatment where she would be able to continue to work. The real reality is now setting in.
MRI results came in this week and things are moving along in the wrong direction, unfortunately there appear to be growths surrounding the previously ping pong sized tumor increasing the total area to a pool ball size.
Treatment can no longer be put off as we are moving into stage 3 territory. The surgeon does not feel comfortable with a lumpectomy and so it's either full mastectomy, or intensive chemotherapy, or a trial hormone drug, or both first. Currently we are waiting to speak with the oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering to confirm where to go from here.
Her job has recently signed her on from contract to full time, and though that sounded helpful, there is a 120 day waiting period before PTO and sick leave kick in, and most of that will not be at 100% or for the length of time needed. In the best case scenario I believe we are looking at 3-6 months of being completely out of commission. The amount I’m asking to reach is baseline basic monthly expenses for 6 months and if somehow we reach that and do not need it, any remaining funds will be donated to a similar cause. Perhaps we will put out a vote to you all should that time come.
Help us fight the good fight. Help my Dear Sweet Sister Shannon, who deserves all the love and support. Help so we can focus on getting healthy and not worry so much about monthly bills. Have a place to sleep, food to eat, and lights to turn on. Help so she doesn't have to keep trying to work when she should be focused on getting healthy.
