Liam's Fight! Liam Strong!!
is a story about my beautiful grandson Liam Goble and the fight of his life against Leukemia at the young age of 2 1/2 years old. Liam was rushed to the hospital on Super Bowl 50 Sunday. While everyone was watching the football game, I was waiting anxiously to hear what was wrong with my grandson. His platelet count was so low, they gave him an immediate transfusion of platelets on his arrival by ambulance at St.Louis Children's Hospital. Liam then had a bone marrow biopsy that determined he has Leukemia. He spent the next 3 weeks in isolation as he also had...the common cold which he could not get rid of as his immune system was so low. He began chemotherapy treatments on his 3rd day in the hospital and has been receiving them ever since. He is now on his 33rd day since being diagnosed.
Liam has been able to leave the hospital now and is taking many medications at home and going in weekly for IV chemotherapy treatments. He just had another surgery where a central line was placed in his chest to give him these weekly chemo treatments. Steroids have caused his beautiful body to swell up, making it painful and difficult for him to get around right now. The chemo of course is giving him all of the pain and suffering that goes with it, though Liam continues to smile and laugh as often as his family can make him which you can see in my facebook pictures.
Liam's parents, my daughter, Shannon and her husband, Charlie Goble are the best young parents around. Charlie works full time while Shannon was working part time as a teacher's assistant. Shannon has had to stop working for now to devote all of her time to care for Liam while Charlie takes as much time off from work as he can to be there for surgeries and chemo treatments. Although, Charlies has insurance through his work, the medical bills have started to roll in as to be expected. Being so young, Charlie and Shannon have not been able to save much and have depleted what savings they had to start paying Liam's medical bills.
Liam's Fight however is only just begining. The medical experts have told us he will be on some type of chemo treatment for 3 years, which breaks my heart. With this long of a time period, I know the medical bills will accumulate, so as his grandmother I am creating this GoFundMe account to pay for Liam's medical bills and care now and for the next 3 years. I wish to bring some peace of mind to Liam's parents, my daughter and her husband, as the stress of hospital stays, surgeries and chemotherapy is enough to worry about without having to worry about medical bills.
As always, your prayers are appreciated and indeed wanted for Liam's strength to fight and overcome Leukemia! Liam's Fight! Liam Strong!!
My Heartfelt thanks,
