NYC Little Mermaid Showing #LittleMermaidChallenge

Hello there!
My name is Amber, I am an event planner located in New York City!
It's been on my heart for a very long while to do activations and pop-ups for different fandoms and community events. I'm seeking to bring Mermaid Magic to NYC for young kids, by hosting a movie screening day during the opening weekend of Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid movie, starring Halle Bailey!
I, like many others, was fascinated by tales of mermaids as a child! Collections of mermaid stories from different cultures around the world still live on my bookshelf.
The announcements of the Little Mermaid live-action touched MANY hearts around the world, and I would love nothing better than to allow young children to not only see Halle-Ariel on the big screen, but to also meet live mermaids in the flesh! Representation is a big creative inspiration and I would love to organize this experience!
I already consulted big theater chains like AMC, Regal, and other independent theaters around midtown and lower Manhattan, and between all of their space availabilities, and costs of material, this is what I'm trying to go for:
Below are my goals:
- ✅ Book a theater auditorium within Manhattan - Success!
Thanks to your sharing and donating, we have fully funded a 115-seat auditorium at an AMC theater in Manhattan!
- Provide FREE concession packs for each child - Because sitting through a 2+ hour movie is sure to make one hungry!
- Create little gift bags - for small, themed coloring or reading books, treats and trinkets for the number of children who attend!
- Provide live Mermaid Entertainment - The mermaids at Spoonful of Sugar Entertainment would love to splash by to greet attendees. Kids meeting their favorite fairytale creatures in person inspires them to make big goals-- like learning to swim, becoming a professional swimmer (or mermaid!), becoming passionate about marine life and science! Depending on how much is funded there could be a pair of lovely mermaids, or if we're able to afford a floor buyout, then we can have a full roster of merfolk, all sizes, colors, etc.!
With those factors put together, the baseline goal would be approximately $5,000 for buyouts for approximately 115 seats, with giftbags, and mermaid entertainment!
Once we hit that number, our next goal would be an additional $2500 for another auditorium of 60 seats and all of the above, with more staffing and more mermaids for the increased capacity.
Our MAX Stretch goal will be $10,000-- this would afford to provide this experience for up to 200 people, with snacks, gift bags, staffing, and mermaid entertainment!
I would love to take things further by organizing children hospital screenings for pediatric patients, funding a Girl Scout screening (especially for my dears at Troop 6000), and more! My mindset is 'the sky is the limit', but the main factor would be a community that would support this endeavor. Consider helping us make this a reality!
