Lori Harper Kidney Transplant Fund
Donation protected
Hello! As many of you know, Lori Harper is a lifelong resident of Akron, a graduate of St. Sebastian Grade School, Our Lady of the Elms High School and the University of Akron. She taught at St. Hilary's and worked her whole life in sales at NCR and other companies. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was a little girl and suffered from many complications including renal failure which forced her to go on total disability. After being on the kidney transplant list and going to dialysis 3 times a week, on July 3, 2016, we finally got the call we were waiting for--University Hospitals of Cleveland had a kidney for her. The operation went smoothly but over the next month Lori suffered severe complications that threatened her life. She spent many days in the ICU but she is a fighter and was finally able to return home and reunite with her two sweet pugles, Magoo and Auggie. On the day she was being released, for the first time, the hospital told her she would have to take an anti-rejection drug that cost $1,500 a month and was NOT covered by her insurance. If she does not take the drug, the kidney, which is finally working well and keeping her alive and off dialysis, will stop working. She has to take the drug for 6 months. We are asking anyone who is able to please donate to help cover the cost of this medication. Even if you can only make a small donation, we would greatly appreciate it. So many people helped and prayed for Lori so we hope those who know her and know how wonderful she is will help us with this last hurdle to help her get back to a healthier life. Thank you for any support you can offer.
