Emergency Surgery for Lyla
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
My name is Paige, if you don't know me, and I go to school with Katie Alser and Bumki Kim. I'm sure a lot of you have heard about the recent health scares they've experienced with their dog, Lyla. Lyla has had a lot of health issues over the years, despite being only 4 years old. Katie and Bumki adopted her from the Durham shelter in 2013 and since then she has had recurring stomach issues and unexplained illnesses. Recently, she became extremely ill and we learned the source of all these problems: through an ultrasound the vet found that large amounts of gauze were left wrapped around her intestines from her spaying procedure 3 years ago. She had to undergo emergency surgery last week and that cost around $2,800. Katie and Bumki were able to make it work, but today at a checkup appointment they found out that Lyla would need an additional surgery to resect the inflamed portions of her bowel. This procedure will cost an additional $3,000 and they cannot afford to pay for the procedure.
This is an incredibly large burden on a graduate student and they will need this money by the end of August. Please help if you can, as soon as you can.
Everyone that meets Lyla knows that she is truly a joy. It's not an exaggeration to say she is one of the sweetest, most well-behaved pups I've ever met. I don't know of a single other creature who would allow her dad to put food on her nose and not move until given permission. She went from being a shy shelter baby to an outgoing and super snuggly companion to her mom, her dad, and everyone she meets.
I know that Katie and Bumki would be so grateful for any assistance you can give. I hope you can help us get sweet Lyla healthy again. Any amount, no matter how small, will help. Please share on facebook or through email.
