24 Hour Sponsored Row for Lymington Rowing Club

24 hours, 73 members from all sections of the club taking part, over 750km rowed and £4,000 and counting now raised.

With the 350km distance to Paris achieved on Sat 10th at 10pm, half way through the event, it was a race against time to make it back to Lymington as our junior members led the night shift. Then, as dawn broke, it was all hands to the ergs to get home - with our final rowers ending the challenge on a grand total of 751,825m.

We set out to raise £2,500 towards the club’s BIG boat fund goal of £20K and have been absolutely overwhelmed by the response. With sponsorship still coming in, your support has made a bigger dent in that target than we could have dreamed of.

For anyone else who hasn’t yet donated but would like to recognise the team effort, your support will still be hugely appreciated and help us to buy much needed boats and equipment so we can meet the growing demand for rowing from the local community.

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

WHEN: 10AM Saturday 10th February to 10AM Sunday 11th February 2024

WHAT: As the countdown to the 2024 Paris OIympics begins, Lymington Amateur Rowing Club (LARC) members aimed to row the 350km distance to Paris on rowing machines (ergs), then see how far they could get back across the Channel in 24 hours

HOW: Working in teams, they took it in turns to erg side by side for 24 hours.

WHY: to raise funds to maintain the club's existing equipment and buy new coastal rowing boats to cater for the increasing local demand, from all ages and abilities, to try out and enjoy rowing. £2,500 was our initial goal for this event but all funds raised beyond this will go into the Big Boat Fund - which has a target of £20,000 - to help us buy new boats more quickly.

WHERE: At Town Quay, Lymington outside Yachtmail from 10am-5pm, the continuing at Lymington Rowing Club at Lymington Shores from 5pm-10am the next day.
