The man that crawled Great Britain’s three highest mountains in a year.
Last weekend, Saturday August 27th Bank holiday weekend Paul complete the trilogy and desire to crawl the Highest Peaks in the UK.
This all started on Summer Bank holiday 2021 when Paul went off by himself and decided to crawl Mount Snowdon as he needed a new challenge to raise funds for Ampcamp Kids.
Paul did not inform anyone that he was off on this crazy crawl and friends and supporters sat at home watching the whole story unfold on social media, you can imagine the disappointment of the gang as we all wanted to be there to support our hero. Paul “The Machine” Ellis.
Paul took an epic 16hrs to crawl Mount Snowdon and fortunately with the few remaining people on the summit got some of the best pictures ever. Which I shall attach. As the winter set in outdoor challenges became a bit harder to come by and we all started planning towards Pauls crawl of Ben Nevis, dates were moved and some big sponsors gained. Fortunately the family, friends and supporters would be there this time and we all watched and walked in awe of Paul. Who crawled to the summit in an incredible 12hrs. Smashing the Snowdon time out of the window. It would take us another four hours just to get back down to the half way point where we wild camped until the morning, the Scottish rain battering us in the night and not making for a pleasant remainder of the journey down, however nothing was going to dampen our spirits.
With the two highest peaks out of the way it would only leave Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, again dates were chopped and changed but Paul finally decided the Bank holiday weekend would be the one to go for. Could Paul make History and be the first person to crawl the uk’s three highest peaks, all with in a year. And once again Paul was not going to let anyone down. Starting out on what is the smallest but probably the toughest out of the three, with hard going paths, lose scree and a mountain that just sits in front of you from the start and does not seem to get any closer.
Paul started out at 6.30am and by 2.30pm had completed the challenge he set himself a year ago, Paul Ellis had just completed the three peaks, on he’s hands and knees. That’s 36 hours of crawling on mountains, a crawl up hill with an ascent of 3369 metres. Cut hands and knees, sore back, there was a lot of physical scars, just like being an amputee but the biggest thing is the mindset it took to complete this challenge, Paul was always referring that it was the mental challenge rather than the physical. And this is why we all believe Paul deserves the biggest amount of acknowledgement, respect and honour and we hope this is where you can help by spreading this story of one mans mission as far and wide as you can.
We were extremely fortunate to share Scafell Pike with some amazing people on bank holiday and we would like them honoured. People donated with the buckets our children carried up. This was jus short of £500 and then there was the reception Paul was given at the summit, after a brief public announcement from a voice note on my phone played out on the Bluetooth speaker, the cheers and clapping, brought a man, that I have never seen cry, to tears. A non drinker, Paul received a celebratory bottle of water and a Supehero medal from my son miles.
I know some will read this and say we have covered this story before but you have not had the headline “man crawls the uk’s three highest peaks in a year” and never again do I think you will be given the benefit of having that headline.
We, myself, paul and everyone at Ampcamp kids hope you will give him the credit and honour he deserves.
Thank you for taking the time to read Keir Nicholson

Double Amputee from Cheshire. Last year I
Crawled Mount Snowdon for AmpCamp Kids and to raise awareness in the Amputee community. Over winter I wondered what I could do next to raise money for a cause so close to my heart. I have also just witnessed the first Kids Camp on socials in February and with the money I raised Ben has been able to arrange another two kids camps for children with limb difference. So, I decided I could crawl Ben Nevis. 300m taller and the biggest the UK has to offer. Easter weekend decided as the best possible opportunity to get up to Scotland. Once I put it to the Ampcamp Mountain Climbers an even bigger plan was born. Ben Lovell, Amputee and founder of Ampcamp said he would do it on one leg. I walked Snowdon last year with Ben when he did He's Snowdon on one leg challenge, which I know was a tough test of endurance, so respect Ben Joining me on this challenge. It took me 13hrs to Crawl Snowdon in August and the team is thinking 16-17hrs for this crawl. We are extremely fortunate to have a good group of friends and supporters around us and up to 40/50 people will be attendance for the climb. Leading my support crew is close Friend and Amputee advocate, our walk and climbing leader Keir Nicholson. Securing a contract with a major outdoor supplier. Keir has sourced enough equipment for me, Ben and the other Amputees Debbie McQuatt and Dan Hartshorn to be able to wild camp at the summit and rest after what is going to be an immense day. We are fortunate to be wild camping under a full moon. It’s the April pink moon and hopefully if conditions are kind, we will have some excellent exposure to the views.
So I’m writing to you to ask for your help again thanks from the bottom of my heart for each and everyone that donated to the Snowdon crawl .. Thank you all so much ❤️❤️

This week Ben Said the target for the first camp is now done, and it’s now booked. An amazing achievement by everyone to get that sorted, as I’ve said before we need to carry this on so more kids can enjoy this holiday.
So let me introduce you to Taylor, a 7 year old boy with a very similar story to Reuben and William. I rang Terri Lewis the mother of taylor a couple of days a go and offered her and her son a place on the 2nd camp.
So this is child number 7 and the 1st for our 2nd camp (date to be confirmed) but it will be in April
This bio was sent by his mom
April 20th 2015 was the day Taylor’s life changed forever, up until then he was a healthy baby.
He was blue lighted to hospital, while fighting for his life. We was told he had meningococcal septicaemia (Meningitis).
They put Taylor into an induced coma and we was taken to a side room where we was advised to get our family members up immediately to say there goodbyes, most heart breaking words to hear! But Taylor being Taylor and the fighter he is, pulled through.
While In his coma we was told the meningitis / sepsis had already caused significant damages to his little body already, his kidneys had failed which meant being put on dialysis, and his little legs and hands were dying.
Due to the damaged caused he had to have both legs amputated through the knee and all his digits on both hands. He has stage 2 chronic kidney disease, liver damage and also lost his spleen leaving him on life long antibiotics.
From falling ill at 8 months old to being 7 now Taylor has had over 80 General anaesthetics / operations, and will continue throughout his life to have more.
Despite all this Taylor has never stopped smiling nor let any of this stop him doing what he wants to do, he is the most determined little lad going. He loves all kind of sports & activities including football, skateboarding, rocking climbing and most of all fast cars. He never gives up!
The hardest part as a mother is seeing Taylor get upset or frustrated about not having legs or fingers, when he is having is off days.
Being able to spend time with other amazing children and families would help Taylor to build his own confidence, he would absolutely thrive from being around other children like him self.
The full camp for February 8th 2022
These are the 6 kids that will fly to Tenerife for a free week at our luxury villa.
Amelia, Lucas, Ashton, Reuben, William and daisy-May will all attend Amp camp tenerife for the most amazing week of their lives. We plan to make this the most fun packed week for all these kids, each of them have gone through life in and out of hospitals. So it’s now time to give them something back and AmpCampKids will do just that
