Friends and Supporters,
As you may know, on July 25, 2019, MVP sued one of our Wake County parents, Blain Dillard. Blain acquired the services of attorneys in Utah and counter-sued. All of the court filings are available at http://parentrights.net/. Please see news coverage about the lawsuit and other MVP topics here: https://bit.ly/wake-mvp-news.
On October 28, 2019, MVP and Blain Dillard announced dismissal of the litigation between them. Both lawsuits were dropped. While we are thankful the lawsuit against Blain was dropped, there is still the matter of outstanding legal fees.
Unfortunately, Utah does not have strong laws protecting citizens against SLAPP lawsuits (strategic lawsuits against public participation). And therefore, Blain's legal fees are his own responsibility. The legal fees incurred by Blain during this 3 month process have exceeded the amount collected to-date by the various fundraising campaigns, including GoFundMe. The remaining balance due is over $28k, and even this reflects discounted service rates and hours from the team of attorneys who represented Blain. Blain's attorneys have graciously agreed to an additional discount so that the remaining balance due is now $10,000.
We believe that parents should be able to speak out on behalf of their children's education in public without being sued. Please support Blain in erasing this debt incurred as a result of his advocacy on behalf of all our children. If you have already donated, we really appreciate your support. Please consider an additional donation if it fits within your budget. If you have not donated yet then here is your opportunity!
