Hello, my name is Shanta Favors, and I am honored to serve as Ms. Wheelchair Michigan 2024. I am also the 1st runner up to Ms. Wheelchair America 2025. My platform focuses on a critical issue: bridging the gap between direct caretakers and the disability community.

Every day, numerous individuals with disabilities face a harsh reality. Caretakers are leaving the field in alarming numbers, leading to situations where individuals go days without essential care—confined to their beds, desperately in need of assistance.

Living with a disability is not a death sentence; however, the lack of adequate care can have dire consequences. Our community does not lack essential resources due to financial constraints; we lack them because of outdated perceptions and practices surrounding disability care and inclusion.

Take air travel, for instance. While many able-bodied individuals rarely face challenges when flying, those of us with mobility devices often experience damaged equipment and even personal injury due to negligence.

Additionally, the lack of accessible parking spaces represents a systemic oversight that continues to hinder our daily lives. We face these challenges daily, yet the potential for change is within reach.

I am seeking your support to raise funds aimed at advocating for systemic changes in caretaker availability and accessibility for the disability community. Together, we can create a more inclusive world where everyone has the care and resources they need to thrive.
