Maddie's Medical Emergency Go Fund Me

Hi! My name is Hannah Kiger and I've created this Go Fund Me on behalf of my best friend Maddie Shiflett. Maddie is a 24-year-old parasail mate in Key West, FL. Early this December, Maddie got a normal cold that you or I would typically recover from in a couple of days. After a few days of this "cold", Maddie decided to visit urgent care. On her first urgent care visit a few weeks back, she tested positive for the flu. This eventually progressed to severe pneumonia and a sepsis infection. She has been in the ICU for 10 days and was transferred by helicopter to Mt Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach last Friday from Lower Keys Medical Center. Maddie is currently in a medically induced coma, intubated and on a ventilator due to difficulties oxygenating and a high heart rate. Due to the sepsis infection spreading, necessary surgery to remove a portion of her lung must be done. Maddie is not currently stable enough for this major surgery, so we are just playing the waiting game now. Even though Maddie's life has taken a pause, her financial responsibilities have not. This will be a long road of recovery but with the help and support of Maddie's friends and family, some of the financial and emotional stresses can be alleviated.
