Hello, dear friends,
My name is Magic, and I am the friendly peacock living in Coconut Grove, Miami who has helped unite our local community. My one-month journey earlier in 2024 was tough, filled with unexpected adventures and close calls that left my body beaten and my spirit yearning for the freedom I had so enjoyed.
At the beginning of peacock mating season in March, as I transitioned into adulthood, I became a target for other peacocks in my neighborhood—they suddenly wanted to fight me as I became attractive to the peahens. To escape the bullying, I followed a neighbor’s friend a kilometer away from home, wandering around US1, only to end up eight miles away in Gladeview/East Hialeah two weeks later.
There, I faced an even graver threat—being turned into peacock soup. Thanks to a brave teenager, I survived kidnapping, five days without water and food, a car accident that left me immobilized, the threat of being left at railroad tracks, and was then able to receive complimentary care from the Veterinary Emergency Group in Biscayne. They transferred me to the Aguacate Sanctuary in Kendall, the only animal sanctuary that agreed to look after me for two weeks, also at no charge.
Now, as I recover, I've been living inside. my mom's bedroom on a cat stand. I am unable to roam freely because it's still mating season and my broken wing is not yet fully grown. My mom is expecting twins this August, and worries deeply about my care and safety. As a single mom, she won’t be able to walk me once my little brothers are born. She just finished screening an outside area outside the living room where I can secured while my wing finishes growing and mating season ends. Her hope is for me return to my daily adventures visiting neighbors, playing with the kids, and connecting with new friends.
To ensure my safety and give everyone who loves me peace of mind, I need your help to purchase a solar power GPS tagging system that is not cheap. This device will allow my mom to always know where I am, ensuring my return home if I get lost or kidnapped again. We aim to raise the cost of the $2330 tag by asking 93 people who love me to donate $25 each. With this tag, I can be free again, enjoying the outdoors and the company of my community without the fear of danger.

1. **Safety**: A GPS tag will prevent me from getting lost or falling into the wrong hands. This journey taught mom that peacocks are used in Santeria cleansing and other rituals or turned into peacock soup and other dishes, as nearly happened to me.
2. **Peace of Mind**: My mom is soon having twins, and managing everything as a single mom with no blood relatives in this country will be challenging. Knowing I am safe will ease her worries immensely. I am her firstborn, after all. There are also many other friends who worry about me.
3. **Freedom**: I am currently restricted to a leash during my outdoor time. With a GPS tag, I can regain my autonomy and live as a free peacock once more.
