The Makeni-Kent Project

Since 2013 an ongoing partnership between the Kent Law Clinic and the law clinic in the University of Makeni (UNIMAK), Sierra Leone has been enriching the legal education of law students in both countries. There is a shared determination to work and learn together, deepening our knowledge and understanding of each other's cultures and legal systems, and improving the legal services we provide to those in our communities who cannot otherwise obtain access to the law.

In 2016 joint online groups and blogs on Facebook and Wordpress, as well as Whatsapp, have facilitated closer contact, and led to the ambition to set up an exchange programme.

It was thought that giving students the oppotunity  to visit each other's clinics and to observe and participate in the legal work of another country would greatly enhance the ongoing dialogue between the two law clinics concerning the work that they undertake. It would encourage the sharing of information, and also the support given to each other in terms of ideas and research, and generally foster a cross-jurisdictional legal education.

We are asking for your help to make this happen. Funds are needed to meet the costs of air, train and bus travel, accomodation and an amount in respect of subsistence. The cost per student is around £1,500 per student for one week.  Please give generously.
