Volunteering in Dawasamu, Fiji for 6 Months
100% OF PROCEEDS RAISED WILL BE DONATED TO THESE PROJECTS SPECIFICALLY!
AS I HAVE SELF FUNDED FOR THE 6 MONTH PLACEMENT
Hello
I am a Specialist Nurse and I am shortly taking a career break for 6 months to volunteer in
Silana Village, Dawasamu, Fiji on the Early Childhood Development & Community Expedition Projects.
I have been working as a nurse for the NHS for 20 years now, I am taking a career break to
volunteer and help others which is something I have always been interested in. After thinking about it carefully over the last 5 years and researching various charities that suited my
experience and working background, I discovered these projects with Global Vision
International (GVI) in Fiji.
Here are two links and brief overviews to tell you more about each project
I will firstly spend the first half of my time on the projects dedicated to -
Community development expedition
“The goals and priorities of this expedition are discussed and determined in collaboration with the local communities of the Dawasamu District. There are five core focuses of the expedition: WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene), health and nutrition, income generation, education enrichment and empowerment, and environmental management & protection.”
I will then be spending the second half of my time on the project dedicated to-
Volunteering with children
“Participants will be working towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4,
Quality Education, by developing and delivering sessions for children under five years of age
that support their development in key areas such as cognitive, emotional, social and physical skills. To ensure a holistic approach, participants also deliver short courses to caregivers
communicating the importance of early childhood development and how children can be
supported in their development at home.”
I am excited and nervous for the challenge that lies ahead but I feel that I can make a valuable contribution to these projects. I hope to gain new skills and life experiences from living and working with children & families in Dawasamu, Fiji.
Any contribution would be greatly received, and will all be going to the help the projects.
Many thanks
Mandy
