Marathon Against Huntington's
Why We Are Running a Marathon Against Huntington's
I'm Parker van Beest from London, Ontario. In 2015, my life changed forever when I tested positive for Huntington's disease.
As with so many others who suffer from this disease, denial gave way to sadness, sadness to anger, anger to powerlessness.
This past Christmas, my siblings and I had to say our goodbyes to our mother who lost her own battle to Huntington's.
Her strength, her love, and her unforgettable bravery has inspired us to do what we can while we still can.
Unfortunately, the risk of inheriting Huntington's from a parent with the disease is 50%.
But instead of running away from Huntington's, we are running against it.
For every $10,000 that is raised, we will run 5km. Our goal is to raise $100,000 and get that number to 50km - over a marathon!
Why Donate to the Huntington's Society?
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Huntington Society of Canada.
Through my own struggle, I have been a recipient of the great work, support and community provided by the Huntington's Society.
The Huntington's Society is a not-for-profit charitable organization that raises funds to deliver individual and group counselling service to support individuals and families living with Huntington disease.
The Huntington's Society is at the forefront of raising funds for medical research directed at delaying or stopping the progression of the disease.
Please help us fundraise for the Huntington's Society and contribute to our effort to bring about a world free of this disease.
When Is The Run?
May 31, 2021.
Can You Run with Parker?
We would love to organize a group run for this event.
However, as Covid-19 cases continue to sore in our communities, it is unclear whether a run can be organized.
We will keep you advised, so stay tuned (and donate!).
Will I Be Able to Claim a Tax Credit for My Donation?
Yes. The Huntington's Society is a registered charity.
This means the more you donate, the larger the tax credit!
