Margaret Ellis Arevalo college fund
Donation protected
Margaret (Ellis) Arevalo left us way too soon after a lifetime of teaching and giving to others. Her greatest love was for her daughters, and what greater gift to honor her than to help provide the quality education for her girls that she would have wanted. All funds will go toward education for Elisia and Gabriela.
Margaret Kathryn (Ellis) Arevalo, 43, passed away on June 12, 2017.
Margaret grew up in Sedona, graduating from Flagstaff High School. She attended Linfield College in McMinnville, OR, earning a degree in Elementary Education (class of 1995). While at Linfield, she studied abroad in both Ireland and Costa Rica. Margaret began her career teaching English, and learning Spanish, at a Honduran orphanage from 1995-1996, before returning to the Phoenix area as a bilingual educator in the Isaac and Tempe Elementary School Districts. While teaching for nearly two decades, Margaret also earned a Masters in Education from NAU and provided teacher instruction at ASU. She was a devoted educator, loved and respected by her students and the teaching community. In her spare time, Margaret could often be found cheering on the Diamondbacks or her beloved Cubs, and vacationing to the nation’s baseball stadiums.
Margaret was also a devoted and loving mother to Elisia (11) and Gabriela (6). She is also survived by her husband Luis, her parents Ken and Phyllis Ellis, sisters Ann (Erik) Polakowski and Becky (Randy) Post, brother Kenny (Erica) Ellis, eight nieces and nephews, a large extended family, and many friends. Margaret’s legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched and especially through the strength, love and wisdom she shared with her daughters.
Services will be held at 10am on Monday, June 26 at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the "Margaret Ellis Arevalo college fund" for her daughters at gofundme.com.
